Superintendent of Police Saravanan said the company manager Sangili Pandi and a worker had hired a four-member gang to commit the robbery to cover up their irregularities in pledging jewels.
The SP said they had recovered 6.5 kg gold jewellery and Rs 8.5 lakh of the Rs 17 lakh cash looted.
Pandi told police during investigation that he and his colleague had obtained loans to the tune of several lakhs of Rupees by pledging fake gold jewellery over a period of time and decided to enact the robbery to avoid getting caught during routine inspection by company higher officials.
The gang were told to come to the firm wearing hoods and threaten them, police said.
