Confusion over the copy of judgement copy in the Supreme Court today delayed the proceedings of the day before a bench headed by Justice J Chelameswar.
At 10.35 am when a bench of Justices J Chelameswar and Abhay Mohan Sapre assembled, there was confusion over the copy of a judgement which the court staff were unable to find.
After waiting for nearly ten minutes, Justice Chelameswar told the lawyers waiting for the verdict, that there is some confusion over copy of the judgement written by him and hence its pronouncement will take place at 2.00 pm.
Thereafter, the bench rose as Justice Chelameswar was to sit in a different combination along with Justice S Abdul Nazeer to conduct the list of business for the day.
However, at 10.55am, Justices Chelameswar and Sapre once again returned and said the copy of the judgement has been found and the parties were also called back.
The pronouncement was made in a dissenting judgement with Justice Chelameswar and Justice Sapre differing in their findings.
"There was some confusion over the copy due to which there was delay," the bench told the lawyers who were awaiting the pronouncement of verdict.
This episode delayed the proceedings which could only start after the regular bench of Justices Chelameswar and S Abdul Nazeer assembled at around 11.05 am.
The mentioning by lawyers for urgent listing of their cases which usually takes place before the bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra at 10.30am, took place in court number-2 before a bench headed by second senior most judge Justice Chelameswar.
Five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice was hearing a matter on the question whether the court can rely on or refer to parliamentary committee reports in judicial proceedings.
