Congress today accused BJP of creating a communal divide in parts of Uttar Pradesh where bye-elections are due in the wake of recent poll debacle in Uttarakhand.
Participating in a discussion in Rajya Sabha on the working of the Home Ministry, Pramod Tiwari (Cong) told the treasury benches, "You are spreading communalism. You are digging it again. It divides the country and society."
He said he was saying so because of the rising number of communal violences in election-bound areas of Uttar Pradesh such as Moradabad, Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar.
"There seems to be some connection," he alleged.
"I think the agenda has changed after the Uttarakhand election...In Moradabad also, you are trying to replicate the Gujarat model...Purposely, they are spreading violence," he said.
In the recent assembly bye-elections in Uttarakhand, BJP lost all the three seats for which polls were held.
Tiwari also highlighted some lapses of law and order in recent times including last evening's incident in the national capital in which a number of boys were caught on camera stabbing a youth several times in broad daylight.
He also said that Naxals have again become active of late.
