Cong asks govt to decontaminate Bhopal gas tragedy site

Congress today asked the government to take urgent measures to decontaminate the site of Bhopal Gas tragedy and rehabilitate the victims.
"Today is 31st anniversary of Bhopal gas tragedy, there is still 1,000-5,000 tonnes of wastage lying at the plant site which has become a major health hazard," Congress leader Husain Dalwai said in a special mention in the Rajya Sabha.
He demanded that the government take urgent steps to decontaminate the site and rehabilitate the victims.
He also said that the compensation paid was no match to the sufferings that the victims have gone through for so long.
Another Congress member Shadi Lal Batra demanded the government to set up an enquiry into the alleged scam into the procurement of paddy crop in Haryana, while Samajwadi Party member Vishambhar Prasad Nishad sought adequate compensation to farmers affected by drought in the country.
AITC member Md Nadimul Haque demanded that the government should take steps for payment of arrears to the employees of IISCO Steel Plant from the Steel Authority of India.
Congress member Palvai Govardhan Reddy sought immediate appointment of vice chancellors in universities, particularly in Telangana, while his party colleague M V Rajeev Gowda asked the government to take effective measures to promote research in universities.
