Controversial Congress leader Jagmeet Brar today said Congress can win 2017 Assembly polls in Punjab only if it contests as a "cohesive group".
"Aam Aadmi Party has done more field work in the state while SAD has improved its position for its stand on SYL issue. Congress has been relegated to a third position," he claimed.
"Congress can win in the state only if it contests the election as a cohesive group under a united leadership of senior party leaders," said Brar, who was suspended from the party in 2014 after he hit out at Sonia and Rahul Gandhi following the Lok Sabha defeat before the decision was revoked last year.
Addressing mediapersons here, the former member of Congress Working Committee, without naming state Congress chief Amarinder Singh and the Badals, said Punjab Assembly polls will see a "friendly match" between two "big families".
He also said the Lok Sabha MP has no "moral authority" to recommend his expulsion as he (Amarinder) himself had been in and out of the party for years. Brar also described expulsion of Congress leader Bir Davinder Singh as "unfortunate".
Brar's name has been recommended for disciplinary action by the state unit of the party to the high command for his "outbursts" against Amarinder in public.
Taking a dig at the state Congress chief's 'Coffee with Captain' session, where Amarinder answers youngster's queries while drinking coffee with them as "western thought", Brar said he will start 'Lassi with Punjabiat' session where he will try to address basic issues of Punjab.
Instead of spending crores of rupees on holding conference at Talwandi Sabo on Baisakhi Day, Congress should spend the money on the welfare of families of farmers who have committed suicide, he said, adding he would not participate in that conference.
