Senior party spokesman Anand Sharma, at the AICC briefing, laughed off the suggestion insisting that Sonia Gandhi was the party chief and Rahul Gandhi was an elected Vice President.
Congress leader Anil Shastri had said he saw the hand of a "Syndicate" behind the attack on Rahul and had called for identifying those who were making "concerted efforts to defame and weaken" the Congress Vice President.
Shastri, a special invitee to Congress Working Committee had seen a parallel between the coming together of some party veterans against Indira Gandhi and forming Congress (O) in 1969 and the recent attack on Rahul.
