Congress today derided fresh moves for formation of a Federal Front saying parties talking about it have no relevance outside their states.
"There is no possibility of any Third Front or Fourth Front. At this juncture, the political scenario in the country does not give any positive sign for any such front...These are state-specific parties. They have no relevance outside their states", party spokesman Shakeel Ahmed told reporters.
He was responding to questions on the possibility of emergence of a Federal Front, an idea floated by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and which appears to be gaining momentum amid talk of JD(U) all set to walk out of NDA and parties like Trinamool and BJD supporting the formation of a non-Congress, non-BJP front.
The Congress spokesperson also took a dig at leaders like Kumar and Naveen Patnaik for their demand for special status for their states asking "what they did they do get special status for their states when they were ministers in central government"?
He said Congress was not against development of any state but "political considerations" should not be made a motive.
Ahmed also rejected the charge of "political discrimination" in the grant to states saying the UPA does not discriminate on the basis of political parties while giving money to states.
