Shiv Sena's Sakharam Ghodke was elected as the deputy mayor, in the mayoral polls of the civic body held here.
Rashid, a former MLA, polled 41 votes by defeating his nearest rival NCP's Nabi Ahmed, who bagged 34 votes, district Collector Radhakrishanan B said.
Ghodke won the deputy mayor's post by securing 41 votesn and defeating NCP-Janata Dal candidate Mansoor Ahmed, who polled 27 votes.
Congress won the MMC election last month by winning 28 seats, while the NCP-Janata Dal alliance bagged 27, followed by Shiv Sena 13, BJP 9 and AIMIM 7 seats.
