The state unit of Congress today threatened to launch a statewide agitation against the Narendra Modi-led government for "ignoring the plight" of border residents who have been suffering due to the frequent ceasefire violations.
"They (BJP) were only after votes and once they won 25 seats they have forgotten the very people who voted for them," state spokesman of Congress Salman Nizami said.
Nizami alleged that the "saffron party fooled people of the state by making false promises."
"The residents of the state were promised the moon, but once they got 25 seats in the state, they turned their back towards the very people who voted for them," he said.
Nizami said that his party would launch a statewide agitation against the Narendra Modi-led government if it does not act to end the miseries of the border residents.
"If the Prime Minister fails to fulfill the promises it had made to the border residents, we will launch a statewide agitation. Our party is committed for the welfare of the border residents who have become sitting ducks on fire because of the hostilities between the two nations," Nizami said.
Nizami said that he himself toured various affected villages along the international border in Jammu region.
"During my visit I found that people are suffering every day and the government seems to be doing nothing. It is high time that something is done for these people, so that their lives and property is saved," he said.
