Punjab Congress chief and Lok Sabha MP Sunil Jakhar today lashed out at the BJP government at the Centre for allegedly "killing" businesses in the country by implementing a "faulty design" Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Jakhar, accompanied by Punjab Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, said the Congress will remove "all anomalies" from the GST after coming into power in 2019.

On the first anniversary of implementation of GST regime in the country, Jakhar alleged that ease of doing business was nowhere and criticised the union government for completely "changing the spirit" of the tax regime dreamt of by former prime minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi.

Jakhar said the motive of the GST was to provide a 'one nation one tax regime' but five slabs of the tax "forced" industrialists to "shut down" their businesses and the measure meant only "sufferings" to the ordinary people.

The Gurdaspur MP claimed that GST regime needed a "complete overhaul" and would be a topmost priority after forming the government in the Centre in 2019.

Jakhar announced he along with all Congress MPs will raise the issues of Punjab's businessmen in the Lok Sabha.
