Attacking both Congress and AAP, Union Minister Smriti Irani today claimed that what the BJP has achieved in the last 7 months the 'grand old party' would have taken 60 years to do so, and accused the 'newest party' of "running away" after being voted to power.
She was addressing an election rally at Yousuf Sarai in the Malviya Nagar constituency in support of BJP candidate Nandini Sharma.
Taking a dig at Congress, Irani said, "What we have done in 7 months, Congress could have done it in 60 years."
"A well-know Congress leader had said that when one rupee travels from the top only 10-20 paisa reaches to the beneficiary at the bottom. But our PM has ensured that through Jan Dhan Yojana even the poorest and the most disadvantaged has a bank account... Till January 26, we have opened 12 crore accounts amounting to Rs 10,000 crore," she said.
Hitting out at the Arvind Kejriwal-led party, she said the party could have brought so much change but they instead "ran away".
"Last few months Delhi has seen instability... People had voted this party (AAP) for change... But the change itself ran away after 49 days," she claimed.
"How much change could have been brought to Delhi during this time (absence of proper Delhi government)... So, don't miss the opportunity this time and give us a full majority to make the BJP government here," Irani said.
Claiming lack of security for women during the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress rule, she recalled the unprecedented protests seen in the streets of Delhi after the infamous Nirbhaya gang rape case, and said it was time for change.
Sharma, a homeopathy doctor, has been pitted against Congress heavyweight Yoganand Shastri and AAP's Somnath Bharti in the high-profile constituency where electricity, water and parking are the major issues.
