BJP today said opposition parties were 'nervous' of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Uttar Pradesh and they were making baseless statements out of their 'nervousness'.

'From the reaction of opposition parties including BSP, Congress and SP it is very clear that they are nervous with Modi's visit to UP... They are aware that their chances are bleak in Lok Sabha elections,' BJP chief spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.

Referring to Congress national general secretary Madhusudan Mistry's statement that Modi was not a challenge to his party, Pathak said if it was not so, why was the party worried.

Suggesting they should first concentrate on the performances of its ministers in UP, he said, 'As per the reports, Mistry himself had said that Congress ministers were not performing... It would be better if he concentrates on his party instead of making comments on others.'

The BJP spokesman also alleged that Congress and SP were hand-in-glove.

'Mistry is trying to corner the UP government on law and order, but he is mum on SP's support to Congress-led UPA government at the Centre,' he said.

'On one hand, Congress protests the poor law and order situation in UP, but continues to take support of SP,' Pathak said.

He said his party would stage protests against the SP government for alleged poor law and order situation in the state.
