The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Friday arrested a Rajasthan Police constable for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000, an official said.

The constable was posted at the Ayana police station in Kota district.

Identified as Ramesh Kumar, he had allegedly accepted the bribe on behalf of a head constable, posted at the same police station.

The role of the SHO is also being investigated.

The Baran ACB had laid a trap at the Ayana police station and arrested the constable after he accepted Rs 10,000 in bribe allegedly on behalf of Head Constable Umar Mohammad, said ACB Inspector Gyanchand.

The head constable had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 70,000 from Mohanlal Bairwa, a resident of Baran, for deleting names of members of his family from an FIR lodged under Section 498 (A) of the IPC, the officer added.

Bairwa approached the ACB on July 23 and lodged a complaint, which was verified the same day, the ACB inspector said.

During the verification, the bribe amount was settled at Rs 20,000 and the head constable allegedly accepted Rs 5,000, he said.

The victim, according to the plan, approached the Ayana police station on Friday to hand over Rs 10,000 to Umar Mohammad but he was found on leave.

In conversation over the phone, Umar allegedly asked Bairwa to hand over the amount to Constable Ramesh Kumar.

The ACB personnel immediately nabbed Ramesh Kumar and recovered the amount, the ACB official said.

The role of Constable Ramesh Kumar and SHO Vinod Kumar and Head Constable Umar Mohammad was being investigated in the case, the ACB officer added.

Umar Mohammad is yet to be nabbed.
