A police constable attached to Versova police station here sustained critical injuries after being hit by a car in suburban Ghatkopar in the wee hours on Wednesday, an official said.
Constable Pramod Devkhude was going on his motorcycle when it was hit by the car, police said.
Due to the impact, the policeman fell on the pavement, the official said.
"He was rushed to a nearby hospital with the help of local residents. He was in a critical condition," the official said.
The driver of the car was arrested and booked for rash driving, police said.
