Mumbai Congress president Janardan Chandurkar today said he had asked Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to discuss the names for Governor-appointed members to the Legislative Council with the city unit.
The term of the 12 Governor-appointed members of the upper house ended on March 12.
Of the 12, six are from Congress.
Chandurkar told PTI that three members - Alka Desai, Subhash Chavan and Charan Singh Sapra - come from Mumbai.
"The Chief Minister should consult the city unit for suitable names, who can represent the city well in the upper house and who can be useful for the party," he said.
He also said that appointments to the
government-controlled corporations and other bodies, where posts had not been filled up for years, should be made immediately to accommodate party workers.
"The crushing defeat of the party in the Lok Sabha polls has left the cadre demoralised. Efforts are needed to lift their morale," he said.
The six retiring MLCs from the Congress are Subash Chavan, Alka Desai, Charan Singh Sapra, Suresh Navale, M M Shaikh and Mohan Joshi. The retiring NCP members are Fauzia Khan, Vidya Chavan, Ram Pandagale, Vijay Sinh Mohite-Patil, Ramesh Shendge and Sumant Gaikwad of RPI.
The monsoon session of the legislature will start on June 2.
