Pictures of a few persons dancing with firearms in a procession having flags of the ruling party have gone viral on local television channels.
Police said they have received footage of the incident and are trying to identify the people to initiate further action.
"We have received video footage. We are trying to identify them. We will arrest them after identification," a senior police officer said.
Meanwhile, the incident has come under Opposition fire who alleged that it was an attempt by the ruling TMC to strike terror.
Commenting on it, Union Minister and BJP leader Babul Supriyo said the way some people brandished pistols showed that the police had become a stooge of the ruling party in the state.
CPI-M politburo member Md Selim alleged that they were the hired goons of TMC and said, "I know the police will not take any action".
However, TMC MP Subhendu Adhikari, who held a meeting there, said he did not see the TV footage and claimed, "None from TMC is involved in it."
