Chinese handset maker Coolpad today said it expects sales of 5 million units in India in the coming fiscal as it expands its play in offline retail market.
"We have sold over 3 million smartphones in this fiscal and for the coming year, we hope to sell about 5 million. The sales this year came mostly from our online partner, Amazon but we have seen strong traction in offline retail as well," Coolpad India CEO Syed Tajuddin told PTI.
He added that its handsets are now available in physical retail stores across states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and in Delhi-NCR.
"We had partnered Amazon itself who sell to retailers. What had started as a small pilot last year is now available across multiple states and we will soon extend this to Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan as well," Tajuddin said.
He added that offline retail currently accounts for less than 20 per cent of the overall sales of the company in India and the contribution is expected to grow to 30-35 per cent during the next fiscal.
Coolpad today launched a new handset -- Note 5 Lite -- priced at Rs 8,199.
"While the industry's average selling price has gone up to about Rs 15,000, we continue to see strong demand for devices priced under Rs 12,000. The segment continues to see strong growth," he said.
The Note 5 Lite will be available from March 21 on Amazon.In.
The device features a 5-inch display, 3GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage (expandable to 64GB), 13MP rear and 8 MP front camera and with LED Flash and 2,500 mAh battery.
