Suspended police constable couple Dinesh and Tarkeshwari Rathod, who had allegedly faked about scaling Mount Everest in May last year, today accused city police officials of ill-treating them.
They also claimed to have not received any formal communication yet about banning their entry into Nepal for 10 years.
Sticking to their claims of successful expedition of the world's highest peak, the couple said they had necessary proofs.
"We are still firm about our claim of scaling Mt Everest. We have all proofs and evidences which can corroborate that we had scaled the peak. We have not yet received any communication from Nepal government that we have been banned in that country for ten years," they told reporters here in a joint press conference.
Dinesh and Tarkeshwari alleged that due to "mental harassment" and "inhuman treatment" meted out to them by city commissioner of police Rashmi Shukla and other police officials, Tarkeshwari delivered a stillborn baby recently.
"When a departmental inquiry was going on against us, we came to know about our suspension from media, but there was no formal communication from the city police in this regard," Rathods claimed.
Dinesh said when his wife was in the ninth month of her pregnancy, some police personnel used to come to their residence to serve them a notice.
"On May 1, when my wife was alone in the house, a policeman came to our house and insisted that he would hand over the notice to me only.
"Since I was not at home, my wife told him to hand over the notice to her since she was also a part of all this issue. However, he did not do so which led to an argument. My wife felt unconscious during the course of argument. The police constable did not show any concern for her and left her alone," Dinesh claimed.
He said Tarkeshwari delivered a stillborn baby on May 2.
"We have approached the Human Rights Commission, Women' Commission and filed a case against Pune police for the misuse of power, violation of fundamental rights, defamation and abetment to grievous injuries," the cop said.
When contacted, the police commissioner said the couple has been absconding and did not remain present for the departmental inquiry.
"We have taken action against them on the basis of our inquiry and the report from the Nepal government," she said.
Dinesh and Tarkeshwari were suspended last November for failing to testify before a departmental probe panel after after their claim of ascending Mt Everest was found to be "misleading and bogus".
