A local court has rejected the bail plea of an army jawan who allegedly abetted a woman to commit suicide after he refused to marry her.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Balbir Lal Jaswal rejected the bail plea of Randeep Singh.
The woman's husband had alleged that Singh had developed illicit relationship with his wife, a mother of three girls, after which she eloped with him.
He had further alleged that Singh raped his wife for several days on the pretext of marrying her, but eventually refused.
"When she insisted him to marry her, he refused, which prompted her to take the extreme step of ending her life by jumping into a river," the complaint read.
While rejecting the bail plea, the magistrate stated that it took police seven months to arrest the accused and it cannot "take chance to let him go".
The court directed police to keep the accused in its custody till a judgement was passed on him.
