A local court today directed the Jailor of Jharapada jail in Bhubaneswar to submit a status report pertaining to a written complaint filed by a prisoner, accused in a murder case, who has alleged that he was illegally put in solitary confinement ever since he was shifted from Choudwar prison on March 13.
Cuttack Sadar SDJM asked the jailor to submit the report within two days and fixed the next hearing on Sushant's complaint to May 19.
Earlier during a regular production before the magistrate on the day, Sushant Dhalsamant verbally lodged the complaint saying that he is being put under inhuman conditions in a solitary confinement in the jail without being given access to meet anybody or participate in the reform programmes, said his counsel P K Mohanty.
He alleged that the jail authorities are doing this at the behest of the Commissionerate Police.
Taking note of it, the magistrate asked Sushant to make a written complaint.
Sushant, along with his younger brother Sushil, was arrested on January 29 for their alleged role in a 2013 murder case of two of their estranged associates.
Subsequently, police arrested nearly 30 of their associates and slapped 21 cases against them.
However, on a police petition citing security reasons, the court had directed to put the brothers in two separate jails.
Accordingly, Sushil was shifted to Baleswar district jail and Sushant was taken to Bhubaneswar jail in March.
