Led by senior CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam, M Y Tarigami, the activists took out a protest rally from Press club area here towards Raj Bhavan against the implementation of the NFSA in the state.
"It is an anti-people act. NFSA will deprive huge population of the right to food. It is against the interests of the people," Tarigami told reporters.
"We wanted to move to Raj Bhavan to hold a protest and bring the matter to the notice of the Governor but police did not allow us," he said.
"We seek provision of 35 kilogrammes of ration at Rs 2 per kg to each family. We demand inclusion of a large section of the society, especially those born in 2011 and onwards, who were left outside the preview of subsidized ration so far," Tarigami said.
"We want implementation of the resolution in the state rather than NFSA," he added.
