CPI-M's local unit secretary R Rajangam said that both parties had all along been engaging in mutual mudslinging. But all of a sudden AINRC had yesterday worked out a pact with AIADMK and conceded the opportunity to fight the RS poll for lone seat to the AIADMK.
"The candidate Gokulakrishnan was with AINRC all along but in a dramatic development he enrolled himself as AIADMK member and filed the nominations for the poll yesterday with support of AINRC. It is just political opportunism."
AINRC had 'failed' to measure upto people's expectations since it came to power in 2011, he alleged and added that the people would teach a lesson to AINRC in the near future.
CPI's Puducherry State committee secretary R Viswanathan also said the AINRC had only shown its 'failure' to field its candidate by earmarking the seat for contest by the AIADMK.
He told newsmen that AIADMK had been critical of the ruling AINRC on several occasions. The two parties had abruptly joined hands, which only demonstrated AINRC's 'failure' in having a proper strategy.
Gokulakrishnan was the lone candidate left in the fray after his nomination papers were found in order during scrutiny today while that of four Independents were rejected today for want of documents in support of their nominations.
With Gokulakrishnan alone being left in the fray, he will be declared elected unopposed to the Upper House on Sept 21.
