CPI(M) in Jammu and Kashmir today advocated for reducing tension between India and Pakistan following the death of two prisoners in their jails, stating that strained ties between the two countries have a direct impact on the people in the Valley.
"The fatal attacks on prisoners - Sarabjit Singh in Pakistan and Sonaullah Ranjay in Jammu jail are equally condemnable. The governments of India and Pakistan need to come out of their established stands and talk straight facts before things spiral out," CPI(M) State Secretary M Y Tarigami said in a statement, after he met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi last evening.
Terming the assault on Pakistani prisoner inside Jammu jail as "a blot on the country," the CPI(M) leader also called for safety and security of Kashmiri prisoners lodged in different jails across the country.
"Be it the border skirmishes, terror attacks or fatal attacks on prisoners, the people of Jammu and Kashmir are direct victims of any type of confrontation between India and Pakistan," Tarigami told the Prime Minister, asking him to take measures for reducing tension and estrangement between the two countries.
