CPI(M) slams VHP's threat of economic blockade in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir unit of CPI(M) today termed the statement by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), who threatened economic blockade in Jammu and Kashmir if the state Assembly allows discussions on revocation of beef ban, as "provocative and disastrous".
"The VHP's statement on discussion on repeal of 298 A, 298 B, 298 C and 298 D of Ranbir Panel Code (which criminalizes slaughter of bovine animals) is provocative and disastrous," CPI(M) leader and MLA M Y Tarigami said here.
Tarigami said, "RSS and its byproducts were hell-bent to disrupt" the communal and pluralistic ethos of J&K, and have "now, unfortunately, started undermining the legitimacy of legislative Assembly".

"VHP and its ilk should try to comprehend that constitutional matters cannot be sorted out on streets and through threats of economic blockades or hooliganism. Such matters are discussed and deliberated upon in the august house of legislature," the CPI(M) leader said.
Tarigami said it has to be ensured that there is no encroachment in the fundamental rights of personal lives, freedom and liberty of the citizens of the state.
He cautioned the people to remain vigilant against attempts being made by "communal forces" to create a regional wedge between the two regions of Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Tarigami also urged the government to immediately order a time-bound judicial inquiry into the killing a father-son duo in Sopore.

Describing the incident as a "dastardly and an inhuman act", Tarigami called upon the government to put across a strong message by bringing facts to the fore without delay.
"Those responsible for the reprehensible act must be immediately taken to task," he said.
