"The new and existing colleges should be provided adequate staff, housing and equipment, so that they become real centres of learning and do not sport sign boards only," state secretary of CPI(M) Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said in a statement here.
He said the existing and proposed colleges should have basic as well as latest job-oriented courses.
"Only then can these institutions serve the purpose of providing quality and meaningful education to the youth of the state," he said.
The CPI(M) leader asked the government to choose the location of the new colleges keeping requirements of the proposed areas in view.
He demanded establishment of a women's college in Kulgam as the district had a large number of female students and there was no exclusive college for them.
