Delhi police today arrested a 'criminal' from Najafgarh area who had escaped from its custody in April in Allahabad where he was taken for production in a local court in a case of kidnapping.
The accused identified as Bhupender alias Kala is involved in at least ten cases of murder, robbery and theft across Delhi, Bihar and Haryana, DCP (special cell) Rajiv Ranjan said.
In 2005, he was arrested for over three cases of robbery and murder for which he served a jail term of about four years, he said.
On his release, he not only forcibly married a girl but also murdered his brother, sister-in-law following some dispute over property matters. Since then he was in judicial custody, police said.
"He had escaped from the custody of Delhi Police from Allahabad on April 15 by pushing personnel of the train while he was being escorted back after production in Samastipur Court in connection with a case of kidnapping," the DCP said.
Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap near a bus stop in Najafgarh, where he had reportedly come to meet his relatives, and nabbed him yesterday, he said.
Police said that Kala, 39, confessed to his crimes during interrogation and said that he had escaped from its custody.
According to police, Kala was arrested in the year 2000 for the first time in a vehicle theft case. Later, his crime graph rose as cases of robbery, murder and abduction were reported against him.
