Showcasing the vibrant and variegated cuisine of the country, the French Consulate in Kolkata organised a culinary trailer of the global 'Good France Event' to be held across five continents on March 21.
The Kolkata event was the precursor to the one-day Gout de France (Good France) food meet which will be held in 3,000 restaurants across the five continents on March 21, Damien Syed, the French Consul General to Kolkata, said at the dinner on Wednesday.
"Eight best restaurants from as many luxury hotels in the town, a cafe run by a local NGO and one hotel from Assam have been picked for tonight's event and all of them rolled out amazing French delicacies prepared by their Indian chefs.
"...Good food is all about showcasing vibrant, innovative, high quality delicacies of a country and its heritage," he said.
The Good France Event, organised at the initiative of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, French government, will be held in all major Indian cities including Kolkata on March 21, he said.
Director of Alliance Francaise du Bengale, part of the worldwide network of 813 centres spread over 136 countries, Fabrice Plancon said, "All of us are now waiting for March 21 as I found Indian chefs doing such a great job in preparing French delicacies."
Plancon named a fish and crab preparation, crepes and chocolates as the "most delectable items" that he 'randomly chose' at the dinner.
Japanese Consul General to Kolkata Masayuki Taga, who was present at the dinner, said, "I am enjoying the food here."
Some of the cuisines on offer were charred pumpkin soup enhanced with tomatoes, herb crusted lamb chops with burgundy, grilled canadian sea scallops, pink pepper corn spiced spring lamb loin, valrhono chocolate and raspberry marquise among others.
