Superintendent of Police SMH Mirza said personnel of the cash logistics agency that had come to fill the ATM left two vital keys, one for the outer body and another for the vault inside, hanging in the machine.
There was no security guard at the ATM located at Nabab-haat in this headquarters town of Burdwan district.
Tuhin Shubhra Mandal, an SBI customer, entered the ATM booth with his father about 3.05 pm and found the outer body key hanging in the machine. After opening it he noticed that the vault key was also in its place and stacks of cash was visible, the SP said.
Mirza said a representative of the agency reached the ATM and admitted that it was their mistake. They keys were handed over to the representative.
Stating that there was over a lakh of rupees in that ATM vault, the SP said Mandal would be awarded by the police for his honesty.
