'Daan Samman' conferred by Bengal Guv

West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi tonight handed over 'Daan Samman' to seven housing societies of Kolkata.
The award is aimed at honouring the true spirit of contributing to society and see positive changes in the lives of people.
The Governor handed over 'Daan Utsav Arogya Samman' (contribution to Health/Hygiene), 'Daan Utsav Shiksha Samman' (contribution to Education), Daan Utsav Harit Samman (contribution to Environment), Daan Utsav Kalyan Samman (contribution to Community), Daan Utsav Naveen Samman, Daan Utsav Uttam Saarvik Samman (Overall contribution to Society (Runner-Up)' to the recipients, accordiing to a press release.
Special honours have also been conferred on housing societies for the most innovative contribution as a young group and overall contribution in bettering the lives of people.
'Daan Utsav' is being celebrated since 2009 for a week every year, starting with Gandhi Jayanti (Oct 2-8), as India's unique Festival of Giving.
It aims to spread love, joy and happiness among those who are less fortunate than us and for each one of us to experience the joy of giving.
In addition to the unique Samman initiative, more than 3 lakh people took part in 'Daan Utsav' in and around Kolkata while over 30,000 children from prominent schools of the city collected and distributed clothes, medicines, food, toys, blankets and mosquito nets.
Under the 'Pujor Jaama' (pujo garments) programme more than 5,000 underprivileged children were provided new clothes.
Governor Tripathi, in his address, lauded the unique 'Giving' event aimed at bringing smiles on the people around us.
This year 'Daan Utsav' was celebrated in over 120 cities and towns in India with more than 1,200 'giving activities' across the country.
