Dalai Lama is expected to be in Allahabad on January 14, the auspicious day of Makar Sankranti when the mela would formally be inaugurated, they said.

Office bearers of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) also confirmed the news saying the spiritual leader has been invited by the international officiating president of the organisation Pravin Bhai Togadia.

Dalai Lama is currently in Varanasi to give a discourse on 'Bodhicharyavtar' at Central University of Tibetan Studies (CUTS) in Sarnath.
