Jailed Bhim Sena district president Upkar Bavra has been booked under the National Security Act (NSA) for his alleged role in the April 2 Dalit agitation, officials said today.
Bavra has cases of rioting and inciting violence against him in three different police stations of Muzaffarnagar district, District Magistrate Rajiv Sharma said yesterday.
Bavra had on April 13 surrendered in a court in Muzaffarnagar and was sent to judicial custody.
Dalit groups had called for a Bharat Bandh across the country on April 2 in protest against a Supreme Court order that they claimed had diluted the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
In Muzaffarnagar, police had registered over 40 cases and arrested more than 90 people.
