The mother of Sachin Goradwar, a Dalit youth from Katli village who committed suicide after the police allegedly harrassed his family members, called on SC-ST Commission Chairman C L Thool at Chandrapur recently.
Accompanied by the workers of the Madgi Samaj Sanghatna, his mother Rekha Goradwar presented him with a memorandum demanding stringent action against the policemen involved in the case.
As per a detailed account of the March 13 incident in her memorandum, the police had raided her house on suspicion that Sachin sold illicit liquor in the house.
When Sachin denied having any liquor, policemen beat him up as well as his mother and two sisters when they tried to intervene, after which the police took Sachin away in a police vehicle, her memorandum said.
After sometime, Sachin was brought to his house when he committed suicide by jumping into a nearby well as he could not tolerate harrassment of his mother and sisters at the hands of the police, the memorandum said.
Though a complaint about the incident was lodged at the Gadchiroli police station the next day, the police did not take any action against the cops involved in the case, she charged, demanding action against them. She also demanded compensation since her son was the only earning member of her family, besides demanding action against the village's police co-ordinator for allegedly misusing his post and misleading people in the case.
Thool assured the delegation that he would look into the matter.
