At a time when everyone is talking about the increase in crime against women, filmmaker Vibha Bakshi says her documentary "Daughters of Mother India" sensitises about the issue.
The National Award-winning documentary, based on the events after the Delhi gang rape in 2012, took one year in the making and for Bakshi the reason she decided to take up the project was the movement that flourished after the incident.
"I was like any other woman searching for answers regarding my security and safety after the 2012 incident. But the movement that happened in Delhi post it made me proud. I realized it is us, who will bring the change and making this documentary was my way of contributing in this change," Bakshi told PTI.
"My sole aim as a filmmaker was to show the change that came. The perspective I took was of hope. We focused on the people, who are working to bring in the change and not the horror."
Bakshi says the ban Leslee Udwin's documentary "India's Daughter" faced made her afraid, as she was also touching the same subject.
"I was afraid that the documentary may get stuck in controversy. I tried to make a responsible film, but still there was a doubt. However, the reaction and appreciation I received was phenomenal," she said.
"Daughters of Mother India" that had been screened on various national and international platforms and will be soon telecast by Viacom 18 network on its various channel.
The network will also translate the documentary in five more languages to increase the viewership.
