The follow-up to 2015's "Sicario" will center on the characters portrayed by Del Toro and Josh Brolin in the Denis Villeneuve-directed original, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The sequel will follow Del Toro's hitman and Brolin's CIA officer as they kidnap the daughter of a drug cartel's top gangster in an attempt to start a war within the cartel.
Castaneda will play a supporting role as a smuggler based on the American side of the border.
The movie is being directed by Italian helmer Stefano Sollima from a script by Sicario scribe Taylor Sheridan.
