Blaming lack of coordination between central and Delhi government as one of the prime causes for rise in crimes against women, DCW chief Swati Maliwal today demanded setting up of a forum comprising Union Home Minister, Delhi LG and Chief Minister to look into such cases for their expeditious disposal.
"The Centre and NCT of Delhi lack proper coordination on many fronts, including issue of women safety, which has been leading to spurt in crimes and even atrocities against women for which the suggested solution could be setting up of the forum.
"The forum should comprise Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiran Rijiju, Delhi Lt Governor (Najeeb Jung), Delhi Chief Minister (Arvind Kejriwal) and DCW chairperson to look into such cases for their expeditious disposal," Maliwal said.
Maliwal said the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has already mooted a suggestion to this effect to the Union Home Ministry, the Chief Minister of NCT of Delhi and the Lt Governor in her recent meetings with them.
She was addressing a conference on 'Challenges and Issues Regarding Safety and Security of Women in Delhi' under aegis of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here.
This forum, Maliwal said, should meet at least twice a month to review the progress on women safety and security in and around Delhi and instruct the authorities concerned to take faster action against those that indulged in such heinous crimes.
The objective is to make sure that the culprits are brought to book through faster dispensation of justice, she said.
Speaking on the occasion, former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit sought efforts to "alter the existing mindset against females" so that a balance is brought out in the upbringing of male and female child as the current bias against female child in Indian society is one of the causes of its neglect which later amounts to their under development.
