The state government has also advised traders to refrain from sale of machine-made items to tourists in the name of Kashmiri handicrafts.
The inspection teams were formed by Directorate of Handicrafts (Quality Control Wing) and authorised to take necessary action against any dealer found violating the Tourist Trade Act, an official spokesman said.
He said the teams have been directed to conduct surprise inspection of handicraft dealers in the notified tourist areas of the state to ensure strict implementation of the Act.
"It is impressed upon all handicraft dealers to affix tags depicting price and composition on each item displayed for sale and also ensure that cash memos are issued to the tourists," the spokesman said.
He asked the traders to get their establishments registered with the Directorate of Handicrafts or renew their registration certificates if already registered.
