Decision to bifurcate Thane district appropriate, says MP

Kunbi Sena chief and Congress candidate from the Bhiwandi Lok Sabha constituency Vishwanath Patil said here today that the Maharashtra Chief Minister had taken the approporate decision by bifurcating the Thane district.
The government should have also bifurcated the talukas of Sahapur, Bhiwandi, Dahanu and Palghar into Khardi, Ambadi, Kasa and Manor for better administration, he told PTI.
He also said that since Manor was centrally located and equidistant, it should be made the headquarters of the new district.
Meanwhile, the new district would lose benefits under the "centrally backward region", if Vasai is included in the district, experts have opined.

According to these norms, the district should have at least 50 per cent of total tribal population to get these benefits.
If Vasai is included, it would lose these benefits and hence there is already a demand that Vasai should be removed from the new district.
