The decomposed body of a middle-aged woman was recovered from a house in the southern part of the city, the police said today.
The decomposed body of Nandini Roy Chowdhury, aged around 43 years, was recovered from her house at Rammoni Bagan under Survey Park Police Station of Santoshpur in southern part of the city, they said.
Acting on a missing complaint of Chowdhury's brother, the police went to the Survey Park house to found her decomposed body on a bed in her room.
"There are multiple injuries on Chowdhury's body. There are signs of struggle and probably a heavy blunt weapon was used to murder the lady," an investigating officer said.
Asked whether there was any sexual assault on Chowdhury, the officer said, "We are still unsure about it. The signs of struggle are quite prominent but to ensure about any sexual assault we have to wait for the post mortem report."
There could be involvement of more than one person in the crime, he said, adding, Chowdhury was staying alone in the house and was not working anywhere.
