Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today called upon the people to continue their support in favour of the state government and inflict a crushing defeat to the Congress in the next Lok Sabha polls.
"The people have fully endorsed the development- oriented policies and programmes of the SAD-BJP Government," he said while honouring the newly elected 299 Zila Parishad members belonging to the alliance.
The felicitation function was jointly organised by the SAD and its ally BJP.
He asked the people to vote out the Congress in the next general elections.
The CM referred to the "unprecedented wins" of SAD-BJP earlier in Punjab assembly elections 2012, followed by two by-election wins of Dasuya and Moga, win in the Delhi Sikh Gurdawra Management Committee elections, civic elections in Punjab and now in recently held Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections.
"The people of Punjab have shown full faith and confidence in SAD and BJP and outrightly rejected the Congress.
"The ground realities could be judged from the fact that the people had even rejected Congress party candidates in the strongholds of PPCC President Partap Singh Bajwa, (Leader of Opposition) Sunil Jakhar and (former CM) Rajinder Kaur Bhattal...," he said.
Badal congratulated all the elected members and asked them to keep themselves ready for new challenges as people had posed a great faith on their shoulders.
On the occasion, Badal announced to setup Kissan Bhawans at all the district headquarters to facilitate the people besides, establishing well furnished Zila Parishad offices.
While congratulating the newly elected SAD-BJP Zila Parishad members, Deputy CM and SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal said that he would soon visit all the districts to honour the newly elected Block Samiti members.
