Delhi's Garhi Mandu forest to be developed as ecotourism spot

Garhi Mandu forest area in the national capital will be developed as an ecotourism spot, Delhi Environment Minister Imran Hussain said today.
The minister along with senior officers of Forest Department and Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) visited the forest cover located on the banks of river Yamuna near Wazirabad.
During the inspection, officers of Forest Department apprised the minister about the development of area to check soil erosion to save river bed from siltation.
The area also serves to benefit a large number of people visiting the forest in the morning and evening hours.
The minister said that there is need to further develop the track and foot path in the forest area for attracting more visitors.
Hussain also stressed the need to develop the area as ecotourism spot both by Forest Department as well as DTTDC in tandem with each other. DTTDC is constructing Signature Bridge in the area.
"The Minister directed both Forest Department and DTTDC to prepare action plan along with timelines as per norms for development of ecotourism in the area and he desired to review the action taken with them at an early date," the government said in a statement.
On the occasion, he also planted a Barh (Ficus Bengalis} tree sapling and urged the citizen to promote greenery in Delhi for controlling air pollution.
