Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday reviewed the status of relief work for the victims of the northeast Delhi violence and directed the district magistrate there to expedite the compensation process.
According to an official statement, Sisodia asked for deployment of more police officers in the area as families are in the process of moving back to their homes from the relief camps set up by the government.
The meeting was attended by Health Minister Satyendar Jain, district magistrate (northeast) and other senior officers of the Delhi government and police.
The government said around more than 13 crore has so far been released as compensation to the victims of the violence.
Sisodia also called for a heightened security system in the form of civil defence personnel deployed at relief camps to keep infiltrators away.
A government official that in the wake of coronavirus outbreak, the district administration is taking preventive measures at relief camps where thousands of people are staying, to contain the spread of COVID-19.
According to the statement, the Delhi government relief response team highlighted three cases of children who were victims of acid attack in the recent northeast Delhi riots.
"Acid attack cases have to be treated under the category of grievous injury and the compensation should be given accordingly. It not only impacts someone physically but also pushes the victim into a phase of immense mental trauma," Jain was quoted as saying.
