Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee today said the party will observe a 'jan akrosh' day in all districts of the state on November 28 to protest the implementation of the Centre's demonetisation move.
All party leaders from the state will participate in the campaign in the districts, MPCC spokesman Sachin Sawant told reporters here.
Farmers, farm labourers, traders and other labourers are devastated with the government's move, he claimed.
Sawant criticised Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for his tweet recently that the Centre has accepted Maharashtra government's request to allow farmers to buy seeds for Rabi crops with the scrapped notes. The CM had also said that seeds can be purchased from centres and outlets belonging to state seeds corporation.
Sawant said state seeds corporation does not have any outlet in the state. The corporation has appointed distributors for selling seeds. They sell only harbhara (gram seed) and wheat, he said.
"What about sugarcane, jowar, vegetables. Fadnavis should stop praising the Prime Minister and concentrate on the state's interests," he said.
Sawant said the government's lack of trust in district cooperatives banks has hit the farmers hard.
"Government boasts about crores of rupees in collection of taxes in old notes in urban local bodies. All gram panchayats have accounts in district cooperative banks which have been prevented from accepting old notes," he said.
He said 15 days have passed since the scrapping of the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, and added that 22 notifications have been issued by the Centre so far, creating confusion and chaos while farmers have been kept away from banks.
