Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today asked people not to panic in the wake of the Centre's move to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes, as he said that the government has given a 50-day time frame to deposit such notes.
In case of failing to deposit such notes till December 30, deposits would be accepted by RBI till March 31 next year with the depositor submitting a requisition for the reason behind the delay along with identity proof like PAN or Aadhaar or voter card, a release quoting the Chief Minister said.
Describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision as "historic and praiseworthy", Das appealed to petrol pumps and private hospitals to accept such currency notes till November 11.
While ATMs will remain closed tomorrow to recalibrate cash, banks will transact from 10 AM to 8 PM tomorrow, the Chief Minister said.
Thereafter, there would be a review meeting, he told reporters after chairing a meeting with bankers.
Das assured that everything was in place to avoid any problem for deposit or withdrawal of money tomorrow.
Extra counters would be set up in banks and a separate help desk would be there, he said.
Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma said bankers were directed to oversee transactions even in banks situated in remotest places and that the administration would provide security to such institutes.
Additional Chief Secretary Amit Khare said that banks were cooperating with the government.
RBI is also monitoring the move with its nodal officer stationed here. Control rooms, which can be contacted by 181, have been opened in every district, he added.
