Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said demonetisation was not a political decision but a step taken in national interest.
Demonetisation might have initially caused some inconvenience to people but it was a "decision in national interest which will effectively put the brakes on blackmoney and corruption", he said at a rally in support of BJP candidate Subodh Uniyal at Narendranagar in poll-bound Uttarakhand.
"The Congress found it hard to digest the big success of this decision," the Union Minister said.
If the BJP is voted to power in the state there will be no interviews for group C and D jobs as the provision of interviews for such posts encourages favouritism and corruption, he said.
Alleging that only scams and frauds took place under Congress governments at the Centre, Singh said the NDA has launched a string of welfare schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Bima Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana and Beti Bachao Yojana that have directly benefited the weaker sections, women and farmers.
He alleged that land and liquor mafia called the shots in the Harish Rawat government and the sting operation on the CM bore testimony to it.
Claiming that BJP is running a "fearless" government at the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Singh said, "Security forces were giving a befitting reply to Pakistan and surgical strikes were an instance of this. Similar operations will be carried out in future if the need arises."
Pointing out that Congress ruled Uttarakhand for ten years out of the last 16 years of its existence, he said if the people gave the reins of power to BJP for 10 years, the state will be made the principal centre of tourism in the country.
