Realistic genre film maker Kaushik Ganguly, still basking in the critical acclaim for his IFFI-feted 'Apur Panchali', credits Dev for the turnaround in the mainstream Bengali cinema more recently.
"I have come to watch Dev's comebck film after his being elected MP. I may represent a different genre film, but such mainstream hatke flicks, with a huge star like Dev, always commends attention and the audience feeback is the clincher," Kaushik says.
Actor Kharaj Mukherjee, a familiar name in both genre of Bengali films including the recent blockbuster 'Chirodini Tumi Je Amar 2', said "It was an acid test for Dev, to prove he retains same popularity after the electoral innings.
"Dev had delievered hits including Rangbaaz and Paglu in past as well, but Bindaas with its backdrop of contemporary rural Bengal and a simple story line, will connect with his audience-fan-masses," the Japanese Wife actor said.
"Feeling humbled you know why. The way the crowd reacted at my arrival at the premier venue! Feeling blessed, feeling not having lost anything. I have gained instead," whose last film 'Chander Pahar' had been released in last January, said.
Director Rajiv Biswas said, "He is received with so much frenzy and mobbed at eery place including the venue of the screening."
"If this is one indicator I am sure the Dev magic remains. But a film has to run on its own steam. And I have put up eerything, from injecting a identifiable story to a cast of dependable names and other stars," he said.
