The commerce ministry's investigative arm DGAD has decided against any anti-dumping duty on belting fabric from China after its probe did not establish any adverse impact of imports on the domestic industry.

The product is used for manufacturing of conveyor belts.

In its final findings, the Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) has concluded that the trend in price parameters do not conclusively establish that adverse impact on domestic industry profitability performance has been due to dumped imports.

"The authority terminates the investigation...and does not recommend levy of any anti-dumping measure," the directorate said in a notification.

SRF Ltd had filed an application for initiation of anti-dumping investigation and imposition of appropriate duty on this product.

The authority had initiated the probe on the basis of evidence submitted by the applicant.

Countries carry out anti-dumping probe to determine whether their domestic industries have been hurt because of a surge in cheap imports.

As a counter measure, they impose duties under the multilateral regime of WTO.

The duty is also aimed at ensuring fair trading practises and creating a level-playing field for domestic producers with regard to foreign producers and exporters.

India has already imposed anti-dumping duty on several products to check below-cost imports from various countries including China.
