Chief Minster Sheila Dikshit today inaugurated laying of sewer lines in East Delhi's West Vinod Nagar.
At a public meeting during the event, the Chief Minster said her government has accelerated the pace of laying sewer lines in unauthorised colonies in east Delhi which "would go a long way in providing a clean and healthy atmosphere apart from overcoming filth, stink and diseases".
Dikshit said the total length of sewer lines would be 24 km and it would cater to 1.5 lakh people living in West Vinod Nagar, Mandawali Fazalpur and Chandra Vihar. The Rs 11 crore project would be completed in two years.
Dikshit said the city government has chalked out a number of all-round development programmes for the area.
"The government is all set to extend Barapullah elevated road up to Mayur Vihar. The first-ever monorail would be commissioned in East Delhi," she said.
The CM said the work on Dilli Haat at Mayur Vihar will begin soon.
She claimed the number of flyovers constructed in East Delhi is higher than any other area.
MP Sandeep Dikshit, who was also present at the meeting, said the government should give simultaneous priority on laying of water lines and sewer lines.
