DJB to implement projects to streamline water distribution

Delhi Jal Board today decided to implement a nummer of projects including renovation of the Chandrawal water treatment plant, to streamline the water distribution network in various areas of the city.
The projects were cleared by a DJB board meeting presided by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
Officials said the Board meeting approved a project aimed at modernising the entire water distribution infrastructure under Chandrawal plant which is the oldest water treatment plant in the city.
The cost of the project has been estimated at Rs 2,018 crore and it is expected to improve water supply to about 2.20 million people.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide financial assistance to DJB for the project.
"The project also aims to help DJB to improve its operational ability, maintenance, asset management, revenue and ability to track equitable supply of water," said the officials.
The Board approved another project for recycling waste water on a sustainable basis. The waste water treatment plant will come up at Palla area.
The project will be implemented in cooperation with the government of Singapore.
"It is one of the major steps taken by DJB to develop alternative sources of water," said officials.
In order to provide better sanitation in unauthorized colonies, the Board approved the work of providing and laying the internal and peripheral sewer lines in a number of such colonies.
