'Water Digest Water Award' is supported by UNESCO and the Union Ministry of Water Resources.
The DJB has set up a decentralised drinking water plant, based on reverse osmosis, along with solar-powered water ATMs at 15 different locations in Savda Ghevra.
Currently, 1300 smart cards have been issued to various families for availing water facility from such ATMs.
"The project has brought about a paradigm shift in the water sector. It can be seen as an initiative which may be followed by many other utilities across the states and countries as well," the DJB said in a statement.
This project has enabled DJB to provide potable water facility in those areas where, due to lack of technical and resource constraints, piped water could not be supplied.
The award was held to mark the World Water Day, which falls on March 22.
