Realty major DLF's three office buildings in Kolkata and Hyderabad, covering 5.2 million sq ft, have got 'LEED Gold' certifications from the US Green Building Council and the company plans to make all commercial properties environment-friendly that commands premium rents.
LEED is a green building certification programme that recognises best-in-class building strategies and practises.
India's largest realty firm has received LEED Gold certification by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) for three buildings -- two IT park towers in Kolkata and one in Hyderabad.
With this, DLF's 17 office buildings, including 12 in Gurgaon, have been certified with LEED Gold, totalling 16.61 million sq ft of area.
"Most of our office buildings are now certified green LEED Gold buildings. It helps our MNC tenants in deciding their preference for DLF buildings, being assured of the quality of our buildings," DLF Whole-Time Director Rajeev Talwar told PTI.
The certification attracts tenants, who pay a premium for environment-friendly buildings, he added.
DLF, which has about 30 million sq ft of commercial assets -- including offices and shopping malls -- with over Rs 2,000 crore of annual rental income, is targeting all its buildings under rental portfolio to be covered under LEED certification.
Out of 17 LEED Gold certified buildings, 12 are in Gurgaon, two in Kolkata and one each in Chandigarh, Delhi and Hyderabad.
LEED certified buildings aim at conserving energy, reducing water consumption, improving indoor air quality, and choose better building material choices, thereby leading to substantial savings in the long run.
DLF Senior Vice President (Building Services) Gautam Dey said that another 5.5 million sq ft of office space would be added in this fiscal as the company is preparing Chennai IT Park project for this certificate.
